What entry requirements do I need?

You will need a minimum of: Full Level 2 qualification, (eg either 5 or more GCSEs A* - C, NVQ level 2, GNVQ intermediate, BTEC 1st Diploma or functional skills). Good level of English and IT skills, 19+ on first start date of course and have been living in the UK/EAA for the past 3 years, Be aware of the amount of study time you will need to invest. Access to a PC/laptop for 8 – 10 hours per week, Offer of a place is conditional (enrolment will take place only if the induction unit is passed within the induction period)

The Level 2 Certificate in Leadership and Team Skills is delivered 100% via ELearning, so you do not need to attend classes in the College but have the flexibility to study at times to fit around your existing commitments.

This qualification is designed to help you boost your performance as a team member and help you make the transition from working in a team to leading a team. If you are already a practising team leader, this qualification will help you be more effective and confident in your role.

Applicants should:

• want to/desire to make the transition from working in a team to leading a team in the future; • be aware of the amount of time they will need to invest especially if they are unemployed now and then become employed later - minimum of 8 - 10 hours min per week; • be able to draw on experience from previous jobs so that they can apply the theory as well as giving real life examples which is the practical.

Induction Period:

Sussex Coast College offer a 14-day Induction Period for this course which enables you to assess whether both the course and the online mode of study is suitable for you. It also allows the College to assess your suitability, in particular whether you can produce work to meet the standards set by ILM, the awarding body.

The induction is conducted online so you don't have to travel to our campus. During the week you will receive your login details to the VLE and a welcome e-mail with guidance on how to approach the induction unit.

You will be sent a deadline/due date by e-mail which allows you two weeks to submit answers to the induction assessment.

If you don't meet the pass criteria for the induction assessment you won't be enrolled onto the course and you won't have any fee liability. You will not incur any fees during the induction period.

Enrolment onto the qualification will take place once you have passed the induction assessment and have funding in place for the course fees.

The units in this qualification cover a wide range of skills, knowledge and understanding. They include units that focus on communication, working with people, providing direction and leadership and getting results from problem-solving to planning and monitoring workloads. The course consists of 11 topics, grouped into 6 workbooks/assessment areas.

• Effective Team and Sales Skills o Developing effective team member skills o Understanding how to market and sell a product • Effective Team and Customer Care Skills o Planning and monitoring work o Improving performance of the work team • Effective Team, Change Management and Mentoring Skills o Developing the working team o Induction and coaching in the workplace • Effective Team and Performance Improvement Skills o Understanding mentoring • Effective Team, Coaching and Development Skills o Meeting customer needs o Working with customers legally • Effective Team and Leadership Skills o Developing yourself as a team leader o Leading your work team

The assessment method for this course is via a Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) and you will be required to answer in the style of structured paragraphs supported with examples and theory from your work experience.

At the start of the course you should identify an organisation you know well in order to relate the theory of Leadership and Team Skills to a real world situation.

What could I progress on to?

This qualification will provide progression opportunities to a range of qualifications such as the Level 3 Diploma in Leadership and Management.

ID/Documentation Requirements

• Completion of application form • Provide an up-to-date CV • Produce evidence of your prior attainment level (eg certificates) • Provide a form of ID, eg valid passport.

You can pay all or part of the fee yourself. You must pay this in full before you start your course. Fees are not refundable except when the College cancels, relocates or changes the time and date of a course for any reason. Students are liable for the balance of any fees remaining unpaid should they withdraw early. Please note the College offers a range of instalment plans to allow you to stagger your payments by Direct Debit.

Spreading the cost:

Payment in instalments is available for courses costing over £200 that last longer than 15 weeks.

• For course fees above £400, a deposit of 25% is required once you pass the induction and are enrolled. This is then followed by three equal instalments during the course • The instalment payments can be taken either on a debit/credit card (must still be in date by the third instalment), or alternatively you may pay by Direct Debit • If you would like to pay by instalments, you will need to complete the fee payment form on application • Employer funded - If you’re being supported by your employer or a sponsor, you’ll need to provide a letter of authorisation on application


You will not incur any fees during the induction period.

If you wish to withdraw, you may cancel your enrolment by notifying the ELearning Administration Team in writing (by e-mail) prior to day 14 and you will owe nothing. After 14 days, you will be charged a percentage of the course if you are paying with an instalment plan.

If you have paid your fees in full and an individual or employer cancels less than 14 working days before the start of the course then the College operates a ‘no refund policy’.
