The Foundation Certificate in Accounting is delivered 100% via ELearning, so you do not need to attend classes in the College but have the flexibility to study at times to fit around your existing commitments. You will be required to travel to an Approved AAT Centre which is local to you to sit exams.

Sussex Coast College offer a 14-day Induction Period for this course which enables you to assess whether both the course and the online mode of study is suitable for you. It also allows the College to assess your suitability, in particular whether you can produce work to meet the standards set by AAT, the awarding body.
The induction is conducted online so you don't have to travel to our campus. During the week you will receive your login details to the VLE and a welcome phone call from your assessor to discuss how to attempt the induction unit.
You will be sent a deadline/due date by e-mail which allows you two weeks to submit answers to the induction assessment.
If you don't meet the pass criteria for the induction assessment you won't be enrolled onto the course and you won't have any fee liability. You will not incur any fees during the induction period.
Enrolment onto the qualification will take place once you have passed the induction assessment and have funding in place for the course fees.
If you wish to withdraw, you may cancel your enrolment by notifying the Administration Team in writing (by e-mail) prior to day 14 and you will owe nothing. After 14 days, you will be charged a percentage of the course fee.
The course consists of 5 units and 5 exams as follows; all 5 units and 5 exams must be passed in order to achieve the qualification. All of the units within this qualification are mandatory. The first 4 units are assessed individually in end-of-unit assessments.
This qualification also includes a synoptic assessment which is your final exam which will be sat towards the end of the qualification. The synoptic assessment draws on and assesses knowledge and understanding from across the whole course syllabus. During the synoptic exam your knowledge will be tested on multiple topics covered from units 1 5.

The assessment method for this course is via a Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) and is a combination of computer based assessments and exams.
4 end of unit assessments exams and 1 synoptic assessment exam. Learners are responsible for booking the exams at an approved AAT examination in their local area.
NB: Exam fees will vary dependent on the approved examination centre's fees.
What could I progress on to?
The accountancy skills developed by studying this qualification will enable a student to seek employment with confidence and/or to progress to the next level of learning.
A student completing this qualification will develop skills in double-entry bookkeeping and will understand how to use journals, control accounts and a trial balance. Students will also learn how to use an accounting software package, how to process financial information in accordance with company procedures and schedules, and how to provide information to colleagues, suppliers and/or customers as required.
The finance, accountancy, business and communications skills developed in the AAT Foundation Certificate in Accounting can lead to employment as:
an accounts administrator
an accounts assistant
an accounts payable clerk
a purchase/sales ledger clerk a trainee accounting technician a trainee finance assistant
The accountancy and finance knowledge developed in this qualification is also the underpinning knowledge needed for the higher-level accountancy and financial skills developed in the AAT Advanced and Professional Accounting Qualifications:

For example, double-entry bookkeeping at Foundation level is the basis for Advanced Bookkeeping in the Advanced Diploma, which leads on to Financial Statements of Limited Companies in the Professional Diploma. Students are introduced to costing at Foundation level, which is then developed in the Management Accounting unit in the Advanced Diploma, and expanded further in the Professional Diploma.

You can pay all or part of the fee yourself. The first payment is due once your assessor has confirmed you have passed the induction unit. You must pay this before you can proceed with the course. Fees are not refundable except when the College cancels, relocates or changes the time and date of a course for any reason. Students are liable for the balance of any fees remaining unpaid should they withdraw early. Please note the College offers a range of instalment plans to allow you to stagger your payments by Direct Debit.

Spreading the cost
Payment in instalments is available for courses costing over £200 that last longer than 15 weeks.
For course fees above £400, a deposit of 25% is required once you pass the induction and are enrolled. This is then followed by three equal instalments during the course The instalment payments can be taken either on a debit/credit card (must still be in date by the third instalment), or alternatively you may pay by Direct Debit If you would like to pay by instalments, you will need to complete the fee payment form on application Employer funded - If youre being supported by your employer or a sponsor, youll need to provide a letter of authorisation on application
